. . . . . . . .
from
recommending
An appropriation to be made for the increased compensation of clerks in the Branch Mint at New Orleans.
. . . . . . . .
April 3, 1856. - Referred to the Committee of Ways and Means, and ordered to be printed.
. . . . . . . .
Treasury Department, March 29, 1856.
Sir: Under the provisions of the 23d section of the civil and diplomatic appropriation bill of 3d March, 1855, the salaries of assistant clerk and of the weigh clerk in the branch mint at New Orleans were increased from $1,500 to $1,800 per annum from 1st July, 1854. The proper item to cover this increase has been inserted in the printed estimates for the next fiscal year, namely, the year ending 30th June, 1857; but there has been none for the deficiency for the present year.
I have, therefore, to recommend that an appropriation be made for the increased compensation of clerks in the branch mint at New Orleans, under the 23d section of the act of the 3d March, 1855, for the year ending 30th June, 1856, $600.
I am, very respectfully, &c.,
JAMES GUTHRIE,
Secretary of the Treasury.
Hon. N. P. Banks, Jr.,
Speaker of the House of Representatives.
