Please mail the dues to the address on that slip, or use one of the other methods detailed on that slip. For members who are notified by email when a new Chatter issue is available, the email stated if you have not paid your dues for 2023.

Rossi, who collects ancient and pre-modern world coins.

Reminder: dinner location is Coopers Hawk in Arlington Heights. 6:00pm start time. Cost is $55/person in advance, $65/person at the door. The next meeting will be on December 14, 2022, at 6:00pm CST, and will be the annual club banquet taking place at Coopers Hawk Restaurant in Arlington Heights, Illinois. There will be no online component of the meeting.

Lyle Daly adjourned the meeting at 8:07pm CST.

Minutes of the Chicago Coin Club Board

November 16, 2022

The meeting was called to order by club President Lyle Daly at 6:02pm.

Board members present for the meeting were Lyle Daly, Melissa Gumm, Elliott Krieter, Scott McGowan, Paul Hybert, Mark Wieclaw, Steve Zitowsky, Carl Wolf, Deven Kane, Bill Burd, John Riley, and Rich Lipman. Absent was Jeff Rosinia.

Old Business:

  1. Lyle reported on the Legacy Project that Lianna Spurrier at the Newman Numismatic Portal (NNP) will provide tech for the Zoom interviews. First interviewee will be Mark Wieclaw, and Dale Lukanich will ask the questions. We are also waiting on a background image for Zoom. Interviews start in December. NNP’s expense to do video is approximately $75.00 each. The board discussed and voted to donate to NNP for the costs and to send in two separate donations for five interviews each.
  2. 1250 meeting reported Bob Feiler working on the counterstamp with North American Medals. Bill Burb and Mark Wieclaw to meet to discuss banquet idea and options for March 2023 meeting.
  3. Report on Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance. John Riley asked if CCC had this in the past and Carl Wolf replied he thought we did years ago. John will send insurance quotes from Liberty, CAN, and Hartford for review. General feeling was that, given the club’s presence at many shows and also ownership of equipment, it makes sense to have coverage.
  4. NYNC Symposium discussion: Should we form a committee to handle the proposed symposium, perhaps ask CCC members who also are NYNC members to be involved. Lyle Daly and John Riley offered to work on this.

New Business:

  1. Dues discussion: Club dues is $20.00 annually. Board discussed how we should handle memberships that start mid-year. January-June membership $20, July-October membership $10, November-December membership $20 that will pay through December the following year.
  2. Future locations discussion for banquet celebrations: It was discussed and recommended that we set a limit for all events, offer tickets to club members only then three weeks prior to the event open ticket sales to non-members. All reservations must be paid to be considered firm. No refunds will be given unless the space is resold.
  3. Discussions about the CCC funds on deposit. Club member(s) have inquired why the club has funds in the bank and is not doing anything with it. Options were proposed to have club members make proposals for spending the treasury. The possibility of establishing a committee to review and consider what we want to do with idle cash. Some recommendations were ANA summer seminar scholarships, assist writers publish numismatic books.
  4. Coins for As Program. Discussion of offering a Coins for As program for Young Numismatists. This program would reward YNs with coins for getting As on their school report cards. Recommendation to establish this program with the following details…
    1. Club to receive copy of YNs report card.
    2. YN is sent coins for each A.
    3. YN should research the coin and report back to club about it. Report would be 1-2 sentences about what they learned.
  5. The Chatter’s Important Dates section includes Meetings and Upcoming Shows at which CCC has a table. Should we open this up to additional information such as commercial shows, nearby club shows. The Board agreed to list commercial shows in the Chatter.
  6. 2023 Auction: Bill Burd reported we have an individual who will submit 40+ items for the auction; they are mostly CCC related, including many medals in copper and silver. Bill also indicated we have several numismatic books: nine from Saul Needleman and 25 from Phil Carrigan estates. Need to decide what to do with these. Recommendations of give to ANA summer seminar, take to local shows and club meetings, give to YNs at shows – with the Estates’ permission.
  7. Update on the 100th Anniversary medals. Bill Burd reported we have 29 Copper medals available. Three medals however have some visible spotting on them.
  8. Melissa Gumm indicated that we need a supply of all club forms, including membership forms and show and tell forms, at the Chicago Bar Association for availability when board members responsible for the forms are not in attendance at club meetings.
  9. Mark Wieclaw offered a Thank You and Great Job to club President Lyle Daly with all the virtual board meetings.

Next CCC Board Meeting February 15, 2023 at 6:00pm CST; online versus in-person to be determined.

President Lyle Daly adjourned the meeting at 7:43pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Scott A. McGowan, Secretary
