Minutes of the 1210th Meeting

The 1210th meeting of the Chicago Coin Club was called to order by President Richard Lipman at 6:45 PM, Wednesday, November 13, 2019, Chicago Bar Association Building, 321 S. Plymouth Court, Downtown Chicago with 29 members present.

The October minutes were approved as printed in the Chatter. A detailed Treasurer’s Report showed $2,455.00 in revenue, $398.00 in expenses, and $34,479.79 in assets. The revenue included a $500 donation by member John Connolly and a $500 donation by Sharon & Kevin Blocker which received a warm round of applause. Under expenses the room rental figure was for three months. A motion was passed accepting the report.

The application of Elizabeth Shaykin received a second reading and a motion was passed accepting her into the Club.

President Lipman announced a Board Meeting, 6 PM, Wednesday, November 20, Connie’s Pizza, 2373 S. Archer Ave., Chicago 60616. Board members should email the Secretary with issues to discuss.

Old Business:

Annual Banquet
- December 11, 2019, Tom’s Steak House, 1901 W. North Ave., Melrose Park.
- Cost: $45/person, reservation required, deadline of November 29th.
- With reservation, give dinner choice of: steak, pork, chicken, or salmon.
- Program: Mark Wieclaw “The Thrill and Joy of Collecting Anything.”
President Lipman gave the 2019 ANA Host Club Award to Club Archivist Bill Burd.
President Lipman announced Steve Zitowsky’s upcoming resignation from the office of Club Treasurer, and asked members for input on the appointment of a replacement treasurer.

New Business:

Robert Leonard reported the December CCC Hall of Fame inductee Charles J. Ricard.
Brett Irick, VP of the Central States Numismatic Society, announced:
- Annual Convention, April 22-25, 2020, Renaissance Convention Center, Schaumburg, IL.
- Made available Exhibit Applications and encouraged members to participate.
- Made available registration forms on two-day educational programs, April 20-21:
  - Detecting Counterfeit Coins, $150.
  - Paper Money Grading, $150.
- Personally donated a $10 Canadian banknote to the evening’s auction.

After a short break allowing members a final review of auction material, Jeff Rosinia served as auctioneer of the 85 lot auction. Elliott Krieter and John Riley served as recorders.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.

Minutes of the Chicago Coin Club Board

November 20, 2019

The Chicago Coin Club Board met November 20, 2019 at Connie’s Pizza, 2373 S. Archer Ave., Chicago. President Rich Lipman called the meeting to order at 6:15PM with the following members present: Deven Kane, Paul Hybert, Mark Wieclaw, Steve Zitowsky, Melissa Gumm, Elliott Krieter, Carl Wolf, Lyle Daly, and Scott McGowan. John Riley, Jeff Rosinia, Dale Lukanich, and Bill Burd were unable to attend.

Old Business:

Discussion on the upcoming resignation of Steve Zitowsky, Treasurer, effective at the January 2020 meeting with the 2019 Annual Treasurer’s Report.
Board members had discussed among themselves a replacement and Elliott Krieter expressed the most interest. After a discussion, a motion was passed appointing Elliott as Treasurer.

New Business:

Paul Hybert was given permission to post, on the website, the list of Medal of Merit recipients, citations, and, if available, photos of their medals.
Since the 2021 ANA Convention will be held in Chicago, a discussion was held on who the Club should recommend as Host Chair. A motion was passed to recommend Elliott Krieter to the ANA Board and Convention Department. Steve Zitowsky expressed an interest in serving as Assistant Host Chair.
Everyone agreed the 2019 Hall of Fame was a success. After a discussion, a motion was passed to go forward with this project into 2020, with a committee of 5, who choose a Chair.
Several board members reported Dale Lukanich (not present) wants to resign from the Board. With regret the Secretary will ask for him to put his resignation in writing. A possible replacement was discussed.
Scott McGowan and Carl Wolf reported on their meeting and began the process of moving the Club’s database to a more Club-based address.
A discussion was held regarding the $5000.00 grant from the Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society given to the Club several years ago. Good ideas and projects were put forward, but no decision was made.
President Lipman led a discussion on his role as ex officio sitting on every Club committee. He asked Board members for advice if this allowed him to vote. The Board endorsed the concept of not voting except to break a tie.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:09PM with the next meeting scheduled to be held at 6 PM, Wednesday, February 19, 2020 Connie’s Pizza, 2373 S. Archer Ave.

Location:	Tom’s Steak House, 1901 West North Avenue, Melrose Park.
Menu:	The cost is $45.00 per person, and reservations are required. Make your reservation either by mail or at any of our meetings through November. Pay electronically (see the Chatter Matter page for details) or make your check payable to Chicago Coin Club, and either bring it by our December meeting, or mail it to P.O. Box 2301, Chicago, IL 60690. • A choice between four entrees is planned: Tom’s Top Sirloin Butt Steak (12 ounces); Charcoal Broiled Chicken Breast; Center Cut Pork Chops with Apple Sauce; Fresh Filet of Atlantic Salmon. • All entrees include: salad, russet potato, cheese and chive sauce, and rolls and butter. • Please make your entree selection now – when sending in your payment of $45 per person, please let our Treasurer know if you want: BEEF-CHICKEN-PORK or FISH. • The deadline for reservations is November 29, 2019. • Since this is the last month of 2019, there will be a special dessert in honor of the clubs 100th anniversary. We hope you can attend this event which will mark the close of the 100th anniversary year.
Parking:	Plenty, and free.
Program:	Mark Wieclaw — The Thrill and Joy of Collecting … Anything! In this presentation Mark will explain, to those not interested in numismatics, why we collect. Mark believes that everyone has a collection or great passion for something. If we can convince them to accept our passion for collecting in the same way that they receive enjoyment through music, nature, or even their collecting habits, that would be beneficial to all. Mark plans to incorporate the survey that he took of members from three coin clubs. He will also use information that he collected from interviews of both collectors and non collectors.
Agenda:	Award Presentations. Everyone who attends will get a chance to win a 1/10-ounce American Eagle gold coin or one of two proof Silver Eagles!!!

Renewing Members Annual dues are $20 a year ($10 for Junior, under 18). Annual Membership expires December 31 of the year through which paid. Cash, check, or money order are acceptable (USD only please). We do not accept PayPal.
