Volume 48 No. 12 | December 2002 |
The 1007th meeting of the Chicago Coin Club was called to order November 13, 2002 at 7 PM by President Carl Wolf, with 15 members present. The October Minutes that appeared in the Chatter were approved as published. Due to the absence of Lyle Daly, the Secretary/Treasurer, there was no Treasurer's report or discussion concerning members with past dues.
President Wolf reminded everyone of the upcoming December 11th Annual Banquet to be held at the Alpine Banquet Haus, 11141 W. Roosevelt Road, Westchester. The featured speaker will be Mark Wieclaw on the subject of Chinese Snuff Bottles. The cost will be $20.00 per person and reservations are required. Wolf announced that several people had submitted checks already and to see him after the meeting.
It was announced that the Nomination Committee of Bill Burd, Mike Metras and Steve Zitowsky made the following nominations for 2003-05 officers: Mark Wieclaw, President; Robert Feiler, First V.P.; Jeff Rosinia, Second V.P.; Phil Carrigan, Archivist; and Steve Zitowsky, Mike Metras and Lyle Daly, Directors. Carl Wolf as immediate Past President serves automatically. The President informed the members that if anyone else wishes to serve, they should present to the Secretary in writing their intent to run with the signatures of five members in good standing.
Jeff Rosinia announced he would check with members familiar with Chicago banking history for a list of prospective subjects for the 2003 Chicago Paper Money Exposition souvenir card. Robert Leonard announced that he is planning to write the history of Salt and Pepper Money for the Chicago International Coin Fair souvenir card.
Under new business a 2003 calendar was put on the screen showing meeting dates. The President announced that he had reviewed the schedule against a list of holidays and didn't see any conflicts. A motion was made and passed to hold our regular second Wednesday meeting on February 12 and April 9, plus hold a Saturday meeting at the Chicago Paper Money Exposition (February 22) and the Chicago International Coin Fair (April 26).
A motion was made and passed authorizing the Secretary/Treasurer to submit a check to the American Numismatic Association Library in memory of those members who passed away in 2002. The amount should be $25.00 per deceased member. The President also announced that a former member, Kurt Eckstein, had recently passed away.
The President showed on the screen two CCC medals that were never presented. After a discussion the membership made and passed a motion to put them as separate lots on the evening's auction. One was a February 11, 1987 speaker's medal for Harry Flower, who was unable to attend that meeting and was rescheduled. The second medal was a 1986 Cabeen Exhibit Medal for Harry X Boosel and the engraver had added a period after the "X" and Boosel refused it and got another one engraved properly.
The evening's program was the annual auction.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Carl F. Wolf
President
These are the realized prices for the lots listed in the previous Chatter issue.
